New Delhi: Mumbais leading builders who have invested hundreds of crores of rupees in construction of flats on land categorised as forest are a desperate lot to get green signal from the Supreme Court to commence construction activity.
Through senior advocates , they promised to deposit the highest possible net payable value (NPV), a term used for imposing cost for compensatory afforestation, that could be slapped on worst cases even though many of them have not been so categorised.
Attorney general G E Vahanvati , appearing for Maharashtra government, said the apex court could consider referring to the Union ministry of environment and forests the plea for necessary clearances for resumption of construction activity after the builders deposit the NPV. TNN
